Cape Town, 29 July 2015: Blue skies and two perfect and sunny winter days made South Africa’s first-ever gourmet chocolate festival even more special. The Winelands Chocolate Festival took place at Lourensford Wine Estate in the Helderberg on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July 2015. Chocolate lovers made their way to this beautiful venue in order to relish the finest of chocolates, sweet treats, coffee, tea, savoury delights and a glass of wine or bubbly.
While unprecedented numbers of visitors put some pressure on the door and on some exhibitors’ supplies, most visitors relished the experience and had a wonderful time, soaking up the sun and indulging in chocolates galore.
The festival featured a number of confectionary exhibitors from artisanal chocolatiers and major chocolate producers who offered tasters, displays and products for sale. These ranged from bon-bons, to cupcakes to truffles and more. For those requiring a thirst quencher, the Tipsy Gypsy Art Bar was serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks; while coffee brands such as Origin Coffee and the Magnificent Barista Boys, and teas from the Tea Merchant kept all warmly satisfied – and the Stellenbosch restaurant – Bistro 13, Ghenwa’s Lebanese cooking club, plus three fabulous food trucks served savoury food all day. On both days at 11am, a chocolate inspired fashion show took place and throughout the day a schedule of hourly patisserie demos were given in a separate demo theatre.
“We really appreciate all the feedback we’ve received”, adds Di. “It’s so valuable because it means we can glean a much better understanding of what people want so that we make the show even better in the future.”
