Winelands Chocolate Festival Highlights

Our interactive space for the chocolate demo’s and Tutored tastings; where Dimo Simatos, the Lindt chef and his crew will prepare the haute patisserie for the LINDT CHOCOLATE TEA at 11am and 3pm each day; and where the models will prepare for the fabulous fashion and jewllery shows at 11.30 and 3,30 each day – is the Blaauwklippen Manor House.

1. THE LINDT CHOCOLATE TEA
A highlight of our festival and this year we are offering you the choice of 4x time slots

What do you get?
The LINDT Chocolate Tea take place on the Manor House verandah, overlooking the Patisserie Garden. Upon arrival you will receive a welcome glass of bubbly and the Lindt chef Dimo Simatos will be at hand to show you some creative chocolate finishing touches. You can help yourself to the very generous selection of exquisite Haute Chocolate Patisserie made especially for you by the LINDT chefs, as well as a choice of specialty teas or filter coffee. At 11.30am (and again at 3-30pm) the fashion shows take place and you will be able to a collection of chic ladies and mens garments from your seats.. (See FASHION SHOWS below for more details) Your ticket allows you access to the rest of the festival – so after you have had your fill, feel free to wander around and take in the rest of the sights and stock up with quality chocolate gifts at the festival.

2. FASHION SHOWS
WE present two fashion shows daily by Stellenbosch designer Stephan Olivier. Stephan studied, and is currently a lecturer, at the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design in Stellenbosch. His signature range, STEPHANO, will show his smart-wear range for ladies and men at the 11.30am – and at 3.30 the show will consist of glamorous dresses for special occasions
The Fashion shows will be accessorized by both elegant and tongue-in-cheek jewellery created by local jewellers, ZUYDA VAN DYK and JACOMIEN LABUSCHAGNE.

3.CHOCOLATE DEMO’S
There are 3 Chocolate Demo’s daily  –  10am;   12.30pm; and 2pm   (On Saturday and on Sunday) (Cost – R50 per demo)

Dimo Simatos explains tempering and how to make truffles – everyone’s favourite!

DEMO 2 AFTERNOON  – 12.30pm   (Saturday and Sunday)
Abigail Donnelly has just returned from New York with more exciting ideas about blending flavours with chocolate. She will show you some interesting tips on using chocolate in savoury dishes. Abigail is one of SA’s most celebrated creative foodies and this is bound to be innovative and with spectacular depths of flavour. Three Stream have sponsored the smoked trout, Chocolat Frey have sponsored the chocolate. Crabtree and Evelyn are handing out gifts to all the guests and Silwood students are assisting Abi at the demo.

Alice is a true artist. She is known as the Playful Baker because of her ready creativity and quirky style. She will explore the sweet silky deliciousness of dark chocolate desserts. Cocoafair are sponsoring the chocolate for her desserts
The pastry school to assist with multiples and handing out these tasters to the audience.

4. CHOCOLATE PLAY TIME
We will have an area with 3 jumping castles (3 ages), a trampoline, and much more…plus seating for the whole family nearby.

5. THE VICTORIAN KITCHEN exhibit, a Cacoa plantation and photographic exhibition will be in the emporium where you can browse through the rooms full of chocolatiers.

6, Watch the movie CHOCOLAT in the MCC Courtyard – Children can watch CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY in the children’s area

7. CREATIVE CAKES DISPLAY The Emporium will also host the Cake Display with a long table full of competition cakes The 3 categories are: Wedding; Celebration and Creative! Judging will take place at 11am on Saturday but cakes will remain on display all weekend.

SPACES at the FESTIVAL

The elegant MCC COURTYARD will offer some adult respite from the crowds as you relax with a glass of bubbly and an oyster or two.
Here you also be able to watch the Lindt chef in action making Lindor balls in their ‘pop-up shop’.

THE PATISSERIE GARDEN is the pretty area of the festival and will have seating and live music. There will be patisserie, confectionery and even banting, sugar- free, vegan etc stands with delicious chocolate items of every kind.

The Gourmet Food and Wine Area will be filled with plenty of savoury choices to fill tummies. There will be a variety of options to drink including wine, MCC, craft beer, gin cocktails,  coffee, hot chocolate, milk shakes and juices .

The Chocolate Emporium will be a highlight this year as it is chocabloc with talented local chocolatiers and quality chocolate.

The stuff of dreams, because here CHOCOLATE is LOVE  – made edible!!

For the Kids

Something for the little people to do

Gabi Soule of Rococoa Chocolate shop is offering daily activities and workshops for children. Pre-booking is essential to avoid disappointment and the cost is R20 per hour of fun and games. Children can also watch Charlie and the chocolate factory all day, visit the cacao plantation  and see the Olde Victorian Kitchen where small cups of hot and creamy hot-chocolate will be for sale.
There is a jungle gym outside and the WChocfest will provide a jumping castle – weather dependent.
